The 1er is just a damn odd looking car on side profile. Spent the morning lowering the rear by about 4mm to get rid of the rake I had before.

We just recently got my girl a 128i in Bluewater Metallic. Pretty slick little car. I agree the side profile looks a little funny, but it drives wonderfully, even with the smaller motor.

Are you not concerned about running costs?

It’s a bit slab-sided but I love the stumpy proportions.

I intend to do the suspension on my 128  sometime this year, though I’m not really looking to lower it at all. I’m mostly looking for some adjustability (front camber) and a bit higher spring rate. I’m lean ing towards Ohlins R&T and M3 front control arms.

I really like the 1er. Have since the concept car. Its   proportion and stance just say fun.

I highly suggest the St XTA coilovers. Basically they are kW V3 and clubsports mashed together (made in same factory). But arnt galvanised. So unless your in salty snowy weather they make a much cheaper high quality alternative. I have m3 front control arms also, make a difference. Also suggest rear subframe bushing upgrade.

Roof is too high, the front overhang is very short and stubby (great for not scraping). But Yeh i love it too, its not classical, it's more in your face

Since it’s her car, not really. Kidding! Well, mostly.

Her dad has three BMW’s himself, so I guess it runs in the family. Besides, it can’t possibly be worse than my old E30 was...

As much as I like it, I agree. A profile shot is like a profile of an older 3 coupe, or a 4 coupe I guess, that is constrained horizontally, but not vertically.

I would actually expect an old e30 to be more reliable, even with old car problems. I’m disappointed you didn’t say it was actually SUPER cheap and reliable so I could justify buying one.

It was halfway through a Spec E30 build, and the car had already lived its best life by the time I got it. I did get it for less than $1,000, and wound up trading it for a running AW11 MR2 (before they got unreasonably expensive). So it all sort of worked out.

E30's can be great builds. Mine was just rode hard and put away wet.

E30s aren’t bad. A s far as parts go nothing i s crazy expensive. Think the most expensive part I've bought is koni adjustable shocks, you can definitely get cheaper shocks though.

Oh I meant the 1 series. I would love an E30 but I’m sick of dealing with mysterious old car problems and knowing I’m going to be mangled  if I get in an accident. You an absolutely get cheaper than Koni but worth every penny imo

I do live somewhere with nasty roads in winter but that’s what my WRX is for. The 1er is parked in my shed, likely until April.

How are the STs in terms of comfort? The main reason I’m leaning to the Ohlins is that their ride quality is supposed to be on par or maybe even slightly better than stock. KWs are also a consideration for that reason.

Definitely agree that the proportion and stance are right; just a bummer about some of the details. The 1M definitely wears the “little bulldog” moniker well.

ST are a lot more comfortable than stock, I hear good things abut Ohlins but they do cost a lot more. They have the same shocks as KW v3 so it’s the same thing as those.

Is the spring perch on the fronts lower than it is on the stock suspension? I already know that I’ll have to order shorter springs for the Ohlins to maximize front tire clearance (running 235 square right now, which is tight up front), do the STs have the same issue? I see o n the forums some people are running the fronts without the helper springs but haven’t seen tire clearance mentioned explicitly.

I just use them as they came out of the box with the helper springs left on. Pretty sure the springs are shorter than stock
